Countless museums, Starting point for trips into Sapa and Halong Bay

Things to do :

Stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, a nice place for early morning work out. Cycle, walk or jog. See the Tortoise Pagoda in the centre of the lake. The pagoda is a shrine to the famous giant turtles that live in the lake. Later watch a water puppet show at the Water Puppet Theatre near the lake.These Puppets are carved from wood, and the shows are performed in a waist-deep pool. Truly gives you a very unique cultural experience.

Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts – Depicts a good collection of Vietnamese art.  You can find a collection of buddhist art, folk art and silk and lacquer paintings. The main attraction in the museum is Kouan Yin (the goddess of mercy) who is depicted with a thousand arms and eyes.

Quan Su Pagoda – Built in 15th Century, this is the most important temples in the country. Apart from this you can also visit One Pillar Pagoda – which is built in 1049. It is located on stilts over a lake. 

Ho Chi Minh Museum & Mausoleum – it is Dedicated to Ho Chi Minh who is Vietnam’s leader and founder of the communist state. You can walk through and see his embalmed body.

Tour Hoa Lo Prison –This is the place where many U.S. soldiers were tortured during the war. The building hosts a small museum, complete with the guillotine used to execute prisoners. 

Tips :

  • Eat from street food stalls,the best place for this is Old Quarter which is packed with low-cost eat outs.

  • Bargain hard in markets - start at least 50% lower than price quoted. Use public bus transport for navigating in city.

  • Bia Hoi or the draft beer as they call, is a must try when you are there.
